The little things give you away.

My ex-workplace has taught me how to be streetwise. How to always cover your back, and to treat everyone with suspicion because you never know when you'll be stabbed in the back. How true friends will never be found in the office. How to survive in the face of continually being dragged through the mud. How to stand up for myself. How to tell a faker from the rest. How people in their mid-lives are so insecure and lonely that they must berate and torment the minions around them, just because they can. That kindness does not beget the same. That a mistake is forever. That trust is fragile. That sentiment is for the weak. That true friends are one (or two) in a million. That the only person you can trust is yourself.

All I can say is that I'm glad to be out of that hellhole. It took forever, and what a way to go, but on to bigger, better things now. The world awaits.
